Highlight of the Dionysium this evening:

In the debate arguing the resolution that NASA not be privatized:

For the Resolution: I believe that all of us here would rather see our descendants among the crew of the USS Enterprise than among the crew of the private Nostromo, the doomed ship of the film 'Alien'.

Against the Resolution: The $15 billion annual budget of NASA should go to curing disease and solving the world's population crisis, otherwise our descendants will become nothing but Soylent Green.

Lowpoint of the Dionysium:

While introducing his group Two Note Solo's attempt to create slam fiction, the leader disparagingly comments that his team will be able to complete their task despite the fact that non of them have dread locks or are slam poets. Needless to say, that's when I decided that the best part of the night had past. You'd think at an event describing itself as 'the Dionysium', someone would realize that their audience probably doesn't buy into stereotypes or dirty, starving, hippie artists. However, the jerk is the programmer for the Alamo Drafthouse, so I'll forgive him... this time.
